BIG IDEAS OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
These ideas or concepts influence every area of Communications Technology. These big ideas are revisited throughout the entire course and program. This page captures some of the lessons presented in class and are offered as a way to strengthen your understanding.
WHAT IS COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY?
Commtech Students: This Prezi was made by a student in 2011. It needs to be updated and would be considered a "Give Back To Your School" project. Let me know if you are interested.
1. UNIVERSAL SYSTEMS MODEL & COMMUNICATION MODEL
The universal systems model and the communication model are explained more fully in the "What is Communications Technology?" prezi. (posted above)
2. DESIGN PROCESS
The Design process can be explained in many different ways. In it's most simple format it is Prototype and Refine.

4. FILE TYPES, ORGANIZATION AND WORKFLOW
Understanding the need for different file types and how to navigate between them is essential in many areas of communication technology such as graphic design, photography, video and audio.
Organization is important in many areas and includes file naming conventions and layer organization.
Workflow is the idea that we try to be efficient with our work process to maximize time and limit confusion. You can think about workflow as an individual practice such as editing pictures for a web gallery or as a group getting ready to broadcast. Your ability to use short cuts in a piece of software increases your workflow. On a team, it is important to understand what needs to get done by one person before another team member can continue the project. For example a script needs to be written by the writer before it can be recorded by the technician.

9. E- PORTFOLIO & DOCUMENTATION OF LEARNING
A learning portfolio documents and authenticates your learning. It becomes a body of evidence for your success in your course.
When you document your learning, it is important to communicate your thinking as you go through your project. You should include technical language, reference to concepts, process, etc.
The concept of a learning portfolio is being used at both the elementary, secondary and post secondary levels. See MacMaster's work in this area for example.
